French “It” girl and actress Roxane Mesquida has made some interesting career choices. In “Rubber,” released earlier this year, she played a woman pursued by a vengeful killer tire. You know, the kind that’s attached to a telepathic car. This spring, Mesquida appeared as a sapphic sorceress in “Kaboom,” a film that was called “a sophomoric exercise in black comedy, supernatural excess and apocalyptic silliness mixed in with straight/gay/bi soft-core porn” by the Hollywood Reporter, but received rapturous applause after an out-of-competition screening at Cannes.
Still more good news for Roxane fans! She is featured in the summer 2010 issue of Blast Magazine, where she also had a memorable spread back in the spring of 2009. The accompanying photos are beautiful, though the text on the webcaps of her interview is a little hard to read — I hope we’ll get paper scans at some point. Enjoy!
Roxane is also in the most recent issues of Citizen K and Crash magazines, but we don’t have scans of those yet. Keep checking back!
During the haute couture shows, Roxane attended a cocktail party for the presentation of Giuseppe Zanotti’s A/W 2010/11 collection of shoes. 9 pictures have been added to the gallery.
Roxane attended the Giorgio Armani Haute Couture fashion show yesterday, dressed a bit more funky and casual than at Dior. I’ve added around 30 pictures to the gallery of the event!
This is exciting! After a couple seasons of not attending, Roxane was at a Christian Dior fashion show, this time for the A/W 2010 Haute Couture collection. She arrived with and sat next to another beautiful French actress I am a fan of, Nora Arnezeder. She looked particularly lovely — be sure to check out the pictures and keep an eye out for a few more to be added later!
Back on the 10th, Roxane was at a party for the 10th Convivio Anniversary Party in Milan. Check out the photos, she looked beautiful in black!
Here’s a small gem I missed during Cannes itself! Empire Magazine interviewed some of the cast of “Kaboom,” including Roxane, and it’s the first English-language interview of her I’ve ever seen on video! There’s also a bit at the beginning with “Rubber” director Quentin Dupieux. Screencaptures will be added to the gallery, but you can watch the video below. Enjoy!
Two bits of good news regarding “Kaboom” as Cannes reaches its close: it’s found international distribution with IFC, and it won the Cannes Film Festival’s very first Queer Palm, a new LBGT-themed award. Congratulations to Gregg Araki and the rest of the cast and crew (including Roxane, of course!)
UPDATE: “Kaboom” Claims First Queer Palm
Gregg Araki’s “Kaboom” was announced today as the winner of the inaugural Queer Palm, awarded to an LGBT film at the Cannes Film Festival, at a ceremony held at Zanzibar, the oldest gay bar in Europe and popular with gay fest goers. Sponsored by Gallic filmmakers Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau (“Cote d’Azur,” “The Adventures of Felix”), the Queer Palm joins Berlin’s Teddy and Venice’s Queer Lion, similar LGBT-themed awards at other major world festivals.
Last night, Roxane attended a party for Blast Magazine at Terrazza Martini, where she was also the guest DJ! I have no idea what her set list was like, unfortunately, but she looked amazing.
The website Allocine.fr had a chance to interview Roxane during Cannes. See the interview and screencaptures below!
